The first ever Fuinneamh Festival takes place from the 15th to the 17th of September this year in the very picturesque setting of Kells in County Meath. The independent festival is an off-shoot of last year’s Lunasa Festival, which took place in Bellurgan Park, just outside Dundalk. This isn’t Fuinneamh’s first festival of the year, being a major partner in this year’s Higher Vision Festival which also took place in Bellurgan Park.
Today the festival have just announced their weekend site map further building the weekends excitement, check it out bellow
Fuinneamh Festival has curated one of Ireland’s biggest homegrown lineups this year for the first edition with the best of the best across all genres being showcased over the course of the weekend. We’re very excited to head to the festival and thought we’d talk about who we plan on going to see across the two days. Firstly, let’s go through the techno that Fuinneamh Festival has to offer.
10. Nathan Jones
A man who needs little introduction to all those who attended Lúnasa Festival 2016 – Nathan Jones is a Dublin based techno heavyweight who delivered a phenomenal headline set on the Ogham Alignment stage last year. We’ll definitely be catching the Vision Collector regular’s return to the main techno stage once again.
9. Maedbh O’Connor
Named first lady of techno in Limerick city, 909 boss and DIEnight and Subtech regular Maedbh O’Connor is no stranger to the Irish techno scene. Following huge sets at Life Festival and Index before FJAAK we’re very excited to see what she brings to Fuinneamh.
8. Casper Hastings
Another huge addition to the festival, having playing sets everywhere Berlin to Paris as well as just having a massive release on Dublin label Rave Selekts, the Kilkenny native is set upend the main stage on the Saturday of the festival.
7. Doug Cooney
Dublin based DJ/Producer, one half of duo RSCH14 and RLSD label owner Doug Cooney returns to play for Fuinneamh after two huge sets at Lunasa Festival and Higher Vision. The Dublin based artist should definitely be on the list of who you want to see on the Friday of the festival.
6. Techno & Cans DJs
Tommy Holohan, Jake Nolan, Eoin Donovan and bossman of the Dublin techno imprint Sam Greenwood will be playing individual sets throughout the weekend following a string of big gigs including Lumen Berlin in Griessmuhle, AVA Festival and Life Festival. Expect everything from jungle to acid techno from the lads’ first solo festival sets in a while.
5. Fran Hartnett
A Dublin born and based artist known for his huge live A/V shows as well as having releases on labels like DSNT, Subsist and Audio Assault, Fran Hartnett has had a huge 2017. Playing regularly lately at DSNT’s huge Lumen shows in the likes of Belfast and Berlin, Fran is sure to provide one of the stand-out performances of the weekend.
Vinyl enthusiast Cailín Power is definitely one to watch at the moment in Irish techno. The Waterford native has exploded onto the scene in recent months with huge sets at Life Festival, AVA Festival and Circles, as well being a resident in District 8 and Index for Subject and doing some shows for GASH Collective.
Next up we have a duo that need no introduction. Consisting of two of the biggest techno artists the country has ever produced Sunil Sharpe and DeFeKT, Tinfoil have been making waves across Europe since their debut show in Hangar last year. Headlining the festival and the Ogham Alignment stage, Tinfoil’s second Irish festival show is sure to be a special one.
2. Jamie Behan
From the early days of his residency at legendary Cork club Sir Henrys Jamie Behan has made his name through his rapidfire style of mixing and consistently quality DJ Sets, headlining clubnights across Ireland, Europe and beyond in the UK, Holland, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Bahrain, and Croatia, promoting Ireland’s longest-running techno night Bastardo Electrico, and managing the respected record label of the same name. A massive addition to any Irish festival, make sure you’re there for this.
1. Jon Hussey
Jon Hussey is one of those artists that comes with a guarantee of an incredible set. A pioneer of the Irish Techno scene since the early nineties, kick-starting at the infamous Planet Dub night in Dublin. He has promoted and resided at many Techno clubs throughout Ireland as well as playing in many Techno havens across Europe including London, Bratislava, Berlin, Leeds and Torino. Anyone who witnessed his set at Life Festival this year knows exactly why he’s our top pick for Fuinneamh.
