Karl Guest’s bi-weekly feature ‘The Guest List’ is back… Every two weeks we ask Karl to pick 10 of his favourite and upcoming releases, written by Karl Guest himself.

Karl is one of the few Dublin DJs that’s equally talented in playing house and techno alike, constantly altering his style from gig to gig, similarly to what he chooses to listen to – he’s had a busy year championing nights all over Dublin and at festivals all over the country, so we’re glad we could catch him to share his versatile taste with all of us.

Without further adieu, Karl has picked his favourite upcoming releases…

1. Dåser – Artificial Interface (Domenic Cappello Remix)

Dublin-based DJ/Producer Dåser was called upon to deliver an EP on Timmy Stewart’s esteemed Extended Play imprint. The four track EP contains 3 stunning electro pieces and a remix from Glasgow’s Domenic Cappello. The remix is of the lead track ‘Artificial Interface’ and takes the track in a much more relaxed and smooth House direction.
Label: Extended Play
Release: 26/10/18

2. Bobby Cazanova – Make U Mine

I came across this track on Soundcloud just over two weeks ago and have had it on repeat ever since. The record which dropped last week on Childsplay Records contains four tracks that blend house and electro together perfectly. The label have described the EP as a ‘Space-Age love story’ told from a machines perspective. This description becomes very clear when listening to the lead track ‘Make U Mine’, a track with big, emotive pads and a melodic, uplifting bassline. Hands down my favourite track of 2018 so far.

Label: Childsplay
Release: 12/10/18

3. Theory Of Movement – Something Extra

This is the last track from the forthcoming ‘Complex Beings’ record by Theory Of Movement. The EP encompasses the sounds of Chicago, Deep and Acid House. ‘Something Extra’ is a deep acid house track with a pulsating bassline and rich pads that create a lot of emotion and atmosphere.

Label: Duke’s Distribution

4. Lone – Blue Moon Tree

UK producer Lone dropped a new EP earlier this month, the fourth instalment of his renowned Ambivert Tools series. The three tracks span across the genres of Deep House, Breakbeat and Electro with the last track ‘Blue Moon Tree’ stealing the show. A percussive, Deep House jam with bright, grainy chords, layered pads and euphoric, gated vocals.

Label: R&S Records
Release: 12/10/18

5. CoastDream – Shine (Euro Mix)

CoastDream is back with some new music for the first time since his breakthrough record ’Soft Moon’ over a year ago. The Brazilian producer has been putting in the hours in the studio ever since and it’s evident from listening to this record that the hard work has paid off as he gifts us with his a four-track EP on X-Kalay Records. The lead track ‘Shine’ is a straight up house groove. Jacking, Chicago style drums layered with a retro, staccato bassline supply the groove with big pads and euphoric vocals adding a melodic edge as the track develops a classic House piano.

Label: X-Kalay
Release: 12/10/18

6. Brame & Hamo – Midnight Express

Brame & Hamo have been extremely consistent over the last year, delivering some top drawer EP’s on their own self-named label. The lead track from their latest ‘Celebrity Impersonator’ EP is a nod to the pairs shared love of prog house and Italo. The track ’Midnight Express’ is a high energy floor-filler with trance-like synths and arps that could really get a crowd moving. Make sure to grab a copy ASAP, as they are sure to sell out fast.

Label: Brame & Hamo
Release: 29/10/18

7. Clouds – Parkzicht

The Scottish duo have returned with their new album ‘Heavy The Eclipse’ on the Rotterdam based Electric Deluxe, a label to which they regularly contribute. ‘Parkzicht’ is relentless techno banger with pounding kick drums, industrial noise effect and an uplifting, euphoric lead that sits on top, perfectly
fusing the duo’s love for both techno and hardcore. This is only one of fourteen tracks from the album which dropped last week. I’d highly recommend checking out the full thing.

Label: Electric Deluxe
Release: 19/10/18

8. Objekt – Secret Snake

One of the UK’s finest and most unique exports Objekt is back with his first LP in four years. The ‘Cocoon Crush’ album is due out on PAN next month and is being tipped for huge success. ‘Secret Snake’ is a really creative track from the LP and has genuinely left me stuck for words. The sound design and attention to detail in this tune really blew me away. I’m gonna stop talking now, just listen.

Label: PAN Records
Release: 9/11/18

9. Paul Woolford – Story Of My Life

The legendary Paul Woolford stepped up for the latest release on Hot Creations with a two track EP of proper old-school house grooves. The lead track from ’House Hits Vol.1’ is ‘Story Of My Life’, a jacking house jam with big drums, harsh pads and an infectious bassline. This is a big vocal house banger that’s guaranteed to set any dance floor alight.

Label: Hot Creations
Release: 9/10/18

10. Gene On Earth – Like A Glove

German minimal/tech producer Gene On Earth is back with his ‘Gary Town’ EP on the label Limousine Dream. ‘Like A Glove’ is the lead track from the three track EP, a deep, driving house track with a rolling bassline that churns out a lot of energy while the garage-like drums add a lot of swing. Warm pads and chord stabs provide a lot of texture while vocals drift in and out creating a spacey vibe. Expecting this one to be around for a while.
