AIROD chats about his creative process, the personal significance behind his recent shifts, and the evolving partnership with Exhale, as well as his label, ELIXYR. From defining moments like his standout Boiler Room performance to his growing presence in the fashion world with Lanvin, Airod is carving out a distinctly unique path that reflects both his musical vision and personal identity.

Parisian techno force AIROD is starting 2025 with a new lease of life, reimagining the project with a bird’s-eye view of what he’s done before and a renewed sense of creativity for what’s to come next. Airod’s creative evolution sees him diving deeper into the studio than ever before, refining his vision and preparing for some exciting new releases—chief among them, his highly anticipated Amnesia EP on Exhale, due February 28th.

Dario Brkic, better known as AIROD, has had a career spanning 7 years internationally, emerging as a raw force that at the time was a catalyst for change in up-front ’90s and rave-tinged techno, igniting a new era for techno not just in France but globally. Since his debut solo 12″ on Molekül, AIROD’s sound has carved a distinct path, resonating with techno heavyweights like Dasha Rush, Blawan, Randomer, and Kobosil.

Since then AIROD has solidified his place as a key figure in the global hard dance scene, with releases on labels like Lenkse and Monnom Black and standout performances at festivals such as Awakenings, Vault Sessions, and Toffler. As the founder of Elixyr Records, he continues to push innovative sounds. His music blends hard industrial techno with experimental and futuristic elements. While known for his raw energy, AIROD is known to blur the lines between genres.

In this interview, AIROD opens up about his creative process, the personal meaning behind his recent shifts, and the ongoing evolution of his partnership with Exhale, as well as his label, ELIXYR. From defining moments like his standout Boiler Room performance to his growing presence in the fashion world with Lanvin, Airod continues to carve out a path that embodies the strength, resilience, and community spirit of his “Shark Soul.”

How are things? Are you having a good start to the year creatively?

This year started with a lot of energy and a clear vision for me. Creatively, I feel more in tune with my sound than ever before. I spent a lot of time in the studio, refining my direction, pushing my boundaries, and making music that truly resonates with me. I also have some exciting releases lined up, including my upcoming EP “Amnesia” on Exhale, so I’d say things are off to a strong start.

What does a typical day in the studio look like for you?

My days are pretty structured when it comes to production. I usually start with a morning session, with fresh ideas, diving into sound design, melodies, or arrangement. Then, I take a break, walk my dogs (Yuki and Yugo 🙂 ), and reset my ears before getting back into it in the afternoon. That second session is often where I refine things, make decisions, and push tracks closer to completion. I like to keep a high level of consistency in my workflow, which helps me stay creative and productive.

You’ve deleted all your Instagram posts except for your 2025 ones—does this signal a new chapter in the Airod project, or what was the thought process behind it?

Yes, it’s definitely a new chapter. I wanted a clean slate, a way to fully embrace the evolution of my sound and artistic direction. I’ve always stayed true to myself, but this year, I’m more intentional about showcasing what truly defines me as an artist. It’s not about following trends, it’s about creating music that feels timeless, powerful, and emotional.

Your Instagram bio says “The Shark Soul.” What’s the meaning behind this?

The shark represents strength, resilience, and presence, something that resonates deeply with me. Many see sharks as solitary creatures, but they are actually very community-driven, just like in music. I carry that same duality: being independent in my artistic vision but deeply connected to the scene & my community. “The Shark Soul” is a symbol of that mindset.

You recently played alongside Charlotte de Witte B2B with Amelie Lens in front of 25,000 people. What was that like?

That night was something special. The energy from the crowd, the connection between us as artists, it was intense. Playing alongside Amelie and Charlotte, who are both incredible artists, made the moment even more powerful. The scale of it was huge, but at the same time, it felt intimate because we were completely in sync with the music and the crowd. It’s a show I’ll remember forever for sure.

On that note, how did you originally become a resident with Exhale, and how has this relationship evolved over the years?

My journey with Exhale started organically. Amelie and I connected years ago through music, and she saw something in my sound that fit naturally with the energy of Exhale. Over time, that connection grew stronger, I started playing more of their shows, and it became like a family. Now, being a part of Exhale isn’t just about playing gigs; it’s about contributing to a movement, a sound, and a community that continues to push techno forward.

Tell me about your label, ELIXYR. You’ve helped champion a lot of up-and-coming artists—is this important to you?

Absolutely. ELIXYR has always been about more than just releasing music, it’s about curating a vision and bringing together artists who share a similar energy and passion. I took a break from it to focus on my own path, but I’ll relaunch it with a clearer identity. I want to highlight producers who are making powerful, melodic, and emotional techno, and give them the platform they deserve.

How was your Cologne Boiler Room set? It seemed like a standout moment in your career.

That set was a defining moment for me. Boiler Room is such an iconic platform, and I wanted to showcase the full spectrum of my sound. I played a mix of different styles, melodic, acid, and hard-hitting techno, because that’s who I am as an artist. The energy in the room was unreal, and seeing the crowd react the way they did made it even more outstanding.

You have a fashion line coming out—how is that progressing?

Fashion has always been an extension of my artistic identity. I’ve been closely connected with Lanvin for years now, they support me by dressing me for shows, shoots, and special events. It’s more than just wearing clothes; it’s about embodying a vision that aligns with my music. I see fashion as another way to tell my story, to bring my energy and aesthetic to life beyond just sound.

Tell me about your latest release, “Kiss Girl.” The reception seems great so far!

“Kiss Girl” was a track where I really blended my influences—melody, acid, hard trance—while keeping it accessible. It’s a balance of intensity and emotion, which is exactly what I aim for in my music. Seeing how well people have connected with it, both on the dancefloor and online, has been amazing. It reassures me that following my instincts is always the right move.

What advice would you give to up-and-coming DJs and producers?

Stay true to yourself. Trends will come and go, but your identity as an artist is what will set you apart. Focus on developing your own sound rather than chasing what’s popular. Also, consistency is key, keep making music, keep learning, and keep pushing forward.
