Japanese Popstars are set to play their first Dublin set in years as part of the Dublin Games Festival after party this Saturday in Temple Bar venue Club M.

The northern Irish duo rose to prominence in 2008 after the release of their critically acclaimed debut LP ‘We Just Are’, which helped galvanise their status as one of the most exciting acts to come from the island in recent memory.

Over the past decade they’ve been no strangers to Dublin having played numerous shows over the years at the likes of Tripod (RIP), including a memorable performance on NYE 2010 in the Harcourt Street venue main room. Performances like these saw the group win Best Live Act at the Irish Music Awards four years in a row. Having enjoyed mainstream success in the early 2010s with releases on Virgin/EMI and working with the likes of The Cure’s Robert Smith it feels like the energetic pair are ready to make their return to the underground and their return to Dublin is very much a welcome one.

Support on the night comes from live Saxophone-house outfit Cafolla & Engel and Dubliner Dave Kerr. Over the last decade Dave he has played all over Dublin, from warehouses and after parties, to some of the biggest clubs in the city. Some other big achievements include a set in the world famous House of Yes in New York City with the H&G Creations collective and also performing a live electronic fusion piece in the National Concert Hall with the RTE contempo string quartet.
