This week’s Mix Of The Week comes from Dublin-based techno mechanic, Dylan Fogarty, as he steps up to Parisian-based label and party, RAW’s revered podcast series. The Skerries native sifts through a selection of rough and ready techno cuts, merging modern minimalism with vintage sidewinders while savouring every blend as if it were his last.
Dylan Fogarty is mostly recognised for his unrelenting musical output; his quick turnover of high-quality techno that genuinely captures the spirit of the techno of yesteryear is something that doesn’t happen every day. Fogarty’s DJ skills match his high-calibre musical output, and his in-depth knowledge of the golden age of techno is second to none. Often acclaimed as a young master or prodigy, it appears he will abandon those names in favour of a top selector, regardless of age.
The in-demand artist continues his relentless output of 90s-inspired DJ sets and productions with an hour of refined techno prowess bouncing between ghetto-kissed anthems, ones that you can imagine shaking the red walls of Amsterdam’s Bret to cavernous loop-driven cuts, reminiscent of Birmingham’s techno institution, House Of God. This is a full-fledged techno assault in the most polished sense.
Dylan switches things up on this occasion as he leaves trademark multi-deck sets aside instead, Fogarty opts for a selective approach, perfectly swivelling the energy up and down, pushing distortion and snarling Dutch power when appropriate, while also opting for a slicker Berlin-esque minimal sound at times. Dylan does well to showcase a multitude of what he’s frequently playing from weekend to weekend in an hour mix, which is not an easy task and even more difficult to do so smoothly. This is a real DJ doing what he does best while making it appear easy.
