Dublin’s late-night music scene takes another hit. Ukiyo, a beloved bar, restaurant and late-night venue in Dublin, is set to close after two decades of business.
Ukiyo was a cultural hub on Exchequer Street in Dublin’s city centre. It hosted a variety of DJs and music events and provided one of Dublin’s few late-night dance spaces during the week and on weekends.
The closure of Ukiyo is a huge loss for Dublin’s late-night scene, which has seen numerous other clubs close in recent years. As one of the few places that routinely provides late-night entertainment, Ukiyo’s disappearance will leave a notable hole for both locals and tourists looking for a venue to enjoy music and dance after hours.
Management issued a statement thanking consumers for their “wonderful custom” throughout the years. “It has been an honour to serve you all,” they added.
The closure of Ukiyo serves as a harsh reminder of the issues confronting the city’s late-night establishments. While the reasons for the shutdown have not been fully disclosed, it highlights the challenges that many independent venues confront in an ever-changing city.
