Parklife Festival in Manchester is one of the UK’s last remaining independent music festivals. Having started in 2010 as ‘The Parklife Weekender’, the Heaton Park based festival will play host to Hip Hop and Electronic music luminaries such as Stormzy, Eric Prydz, DJ EZ, Dixon, Skream and Loyle Carner to name a few.
We caught up with Monki, Ellie Cocks and Solardo; three of our favourite acts from this years line up to talk about this year’s festival, festivals in general and the track they’re most excited to play.

Q: What is it you’re looking forward to most about Parklife this year?

A: Manchester is one of the music capitals of the UK. Especially it’s history with electronic music and raves so it’s always a pleasure to play there. You know you’re always in for a riot and Parklife is the festival pinnacle of the city.

Q: What is it about festivals that you enjoy so much?

A: I like seeing everyone, you get to see a bunch of faces over the next 3 months like passing ships. Festival season has a different vibe to club season, you’re outdoors in the sun instead of late nights in the dark so it’s a good change of scenery.

Q: One track you’re looking to drop most at Parklife?

A:) It’s a festival so will be something classic. Strings Of Life, something like that but we’ll keep it a surprise.

Q: What is it you’re looking forward to most about Parklife this year?

A: The fact that I even got asked to play is exciting enough! Parklife is massive! And on top of that, I’m playing on stage 3 which is pretty big with Maya Jane Coles, who I have always been a fan of since even before I was a DJ! I love festivals and the thought of playing at one of the biggest ones excites me a lot! There are so many wicked artists on the lineup it will be a great day to hear new music too.

Q: What is it about festivals that you enjoy so much?

A: I just love the festival season! It’s the closest thing to being on holiday when you’re at a festival! I even love how we can get all our faces covered in glitter and the vibe is always nice and happy! Even the weather can’t hold you down with UK festivals, you’re in a field with friends listening to music, there’s not much that beats that.

Q: One track you’re looking to drop most at Parklife?

A: I would love to drop ‘Her House’ by Guti as I think it’s a great track to play in the middle of a set, however, I don’t plan my sets when I play, so who knows?

Q: What is it you’re looking forward to most about Parklife this year?

A: It’s a bit of everything really – mostly the people because Mancunians are always up for a party. The atmosphere has always been electric every time we have been so we don’t think this year will be any different especially because it’s their biggest line up to date. It’s also our local festival and we have been going to Parklike since the very first year it started, and to be heading the Elrow tent this year is a massive achievement for us.

Q: What is it about festivals that you enjoy so much?

A: There are so many different reasons and factors that we don’t know where to start. A really big factor is that it’s during the summer and the nice weather, combined with good music and fields with thousands of like-minded people, creates an experience and energy only festivals can bring.

Q: One track you’re looking to drop most at Parklife?

A: We are going to be biased here and say our track “Tribesmen” – the reason behind this is because of the unrivalled support that this city has shown for this track and for our career from the very start.
