Usually when we hear of a shark attack we immediately presume the story is surfacing from of the likes of America, South Africa or Australia. This weekend an 82 year old man suffered a wound from a suspected shark bite on the dance island of Ibiza.

This incident happened at the popular beach at Playa d’en Bossa, home to super clubs Hï and Ushuaïa. The man suffered a 2 inch wound from what was suspected to be a blue shark, a very common species around the Mediterranean Sea.

Earlier in the day an eight-foot blue shark beached itself in neighbouring Balearic island, Majorca sending beach-goers into brief panic until the shark was located. Sadly due to an injury already sustained the shark was later put down.

These kind of incidents are incredibly rare in Spain and should no way deter you from swimming in Ibiza’s beautiful clear waters.
