Music Production for Women and DistroKid are teaming up this July for a bold new initiative: Empower Sound – Live, a free, beginner-friendly workshop series touring cities across the country.
The mission is to demystify music production and empower women and non-gender-conforming artists to leap into music production.
Over the course of a full day of hands-on sessions, attendees will be guided through the fundamentals of music production, from beat-making, synthesis, and audio effects. The sessions are tailored for absolute beginners, with no prior experience required. You won’t even need your own software to follow along.
According to MPW, “this event has been designed for any artist who feels like they are not getting the results they want for their music through working with other producers and are wanting to build the skills to produce for themselves and become more self-reliant artists.”
The workshops will be taught using Ableton Live, but the content is transferable to other DAWs. “We will be running the sessions on Ableton Live, but the content will be transferable to whichever production software you use.”
While the event is led by an organisation focused on empowering women, it’s open to all. “Definitely not,” MPW responds to whether it’s women-only. “Although our mission is to empower more women and gender minorities in music technology we encourage everyone who is interested in learning with us to join!”
Registration is required, even if you’re bringing a friend. “Please do make sure you both get a ticket, as we have limited capacity.”
