Sam GreenwoodThe National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) held their annual show in Anaheim California earlier this year, showcasing the best that all the companies involved in producing musical instruments from all over the world have to offer.
This year’s show seen a very special product from Black Corporation, who took one of the most iconic films in terms of electronic soundtracks, Blade Runner, and reimagined it into one of their synthesizers.
The ‘Deckard’s Dream’ synth is inspired by the original score for the 1980s film, along with the Yamaha CS-80, which had a hand in generating many of the soundtracks of films around that era.
The sequel to Blade Runner; ‘Blade Runner 2049’, was released at the tail end of 2017 and featured a cast of new and old consisting of Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford. As expected, the soundtrack really didn’t disappoint, with the score being put together by a combination of Benjamin Wallfisch and the famed Hans Zimmer.
‘Deckard’s Dream’ isn’t the only electronic music related tie in to the new film, as Boiler Room ran a Blade Runner-inspired night in the lead up to the film, which featured a host of live and experimental artists, whose sounds were heavily inspired by the original, synth-heavy score. Hudson Mohawke headlined the event along with performances from Aisha Devi, Kuedo, Flora Yin-Wong and many more.
