Well, well… A new techno venue launches in Dublin. While we have seen Hangar, Tivoli Theatre, Jam Park, Bernard Shaw, Jigsaw and many more of our favourite haunts knocked in the last few years, very few venues have actually opened so this is major news.

Today the new basement venue, situated on East Essex Street, called ‘Cellar‘ has announced it will open late on Friday and Saturday nights, offering a large slice of techno, booked by myself.

The venue, which recently opened with a live music offering, announced today their plans to kick off with a bang next weekend, November 19th and 20th with a heap of house and techno.

You asked, we listened. Off the back of losing many Dublin clubbing institutions over the last number of years, another solution was needed to offer not only a safe space for the local scene to flourish, but a venue featuring a consistent weekly local lineup. This is exactly what the Cellar aims to provide; a new home for the dance music scene in Ireland.

Collaborating with two of Ireland’s established dance music collectives across Friday and Saturday, Friday nights will be hosted and curated by the EVE collective, while Saturday nights are curated by Four Four Mag boss and Techno & Cans founder Sam Greenwood.

EVE will be bringing the warm and deep sounds of melodic house and techno to the venue, which they are well known for from their numerous sets at clubs and festivals up and down the country, not to mention their incredible Boiler Room performance.

Saturday nights will feature a tougher, darker side of techno as many have come to expect from any events that Sam Greenwood has booked over the years, and will no doubt bring a touch of the Hangar vibes back to the city.

At 300 capacity, the basement venue offers an intimate setting to enjoy the best in Irish dance music. Across both nights we will see numerous opportunities for local DJs to collaborate, offering local talent and rising stars a much needed platform against a clubbing backdrop that has become increasingly saturated by international bookings.

Taking inspiration from some of the best clubs, the space will have a strict no cameras, flash lights or phone policy to ensure everyone attending is completely immersed in the music from day one. The focus will be purely on the sound, atmosphere and the dance floor.

From the outset, the club has established a lock tight policy towards safety and inclusivity. A close relationship between venue managers, promoters and the entire team will set out to ensure that these policies provide an atmosphere where everyone can feel safe, week in week out.

No matter who’s playing Friday or Saturday, you can be assured a quality selection of Ireland’s finest DJs. This is your new weekly rock-up.

Fri 19th November – EVE
Sat 20th November – Aero, Fiveseven, Billy Spike Island
