Yesterday, Give Us The Night released findings that highlight how Ireland’s nightclubs and bars are forced to close much earlier than those in the UK and up to eight hours earlier than many European countries.

While cities like Berlin, Amsterdam, and others embrace extended nightlife, with venues operating almost 24/7 on certain weekends, Ireland’s restrictive closing times limit late-night cultural activities and stifle its nightlife culture.

Two years ago, the Sale of Alcohol Bill was passed with the intention of extending the operating hours of nightclubs and bars, allowing them to trade for longer periods. However, despite this legislation, the government appears to be dragging its heels, and it seems unlikely that these changes will be implemented before the next election.

Modernising these closing times could rejuvenate various cities and towns across Ireland, attract more tourism, and bring the country in line with its European counterparts, offering a nightlife experience that reflects true club culture and supports the growth of its nighttime economy.
