We’re delighted to welcome the Belfast collective and club night, Plain Sailing to join our Local Selection Mix Series family. Enjoy this hour of break heavy dance floor ready beats.

Plain Sailing first began as a response to how serious dance music has appeared to become. The doublet of Peter Gibney and Andrew Moore wanted to create a party that was meaningful and culturally positive, but without taking themselves too seriously – that’s actually how Peter came up with the name Plain Sailing.

With a strong focus on bigging up the Irish locals and providing a more eclectic raving experience in a city usually dominated by house and techno – there is a strong community aesthetic that looks to ride the wave of diversity that is currently crashing through Belfast. Now, more than ever, there is an appetite for something new.

Offering something slightly different in Belfast – through their grime and UK garage parties – the pair want their events to reflect their musical tastes. In the era of the £30 rave, they offer a friendly, intimate night with killer selectors, diverse sounds and a humbling atmosphere.Offering something slightly different in Belfast – through their grime and UK garage parties – the pair want their events to reflect their musical tastes. Plain Sailing have put out a range of music through their Soundcloud – from the icey, industrial metal/grime hybrid of Son Zept, to the emo garage of Spireview to a field recording dotted ambient piece exploring the sounds of Amsterdam from Netherlands based, Irish born artist Kobina.

Throughout the last year the pair have welcomed future-facing artists such a Pepe, Mor Elian and Willow to join Irish acts such as Cailin, Carlton Doom, Bloom, Leo Miyagee, Alex MB and Jamie Nelson (and many more) in parties spanning – but not limited to – hip hop, uk garage, grime, electro, house, techno and breaks.

Pete’s been listening to a lot of UK techno lately, which has definitely served as the influence for this mix. Lairy basslines and laser-blasting energy galore, it is a reflection of what we like our parties to be – dark, gritty and energetic.

This “Local Selection Mix Series” is brought to you by our partner Red Bull, helping you discover Ireland’s most talented artists. You can check out more of what’s going on in the world of Red Bull Music here.
