Sam GreenwoodWe take a trip to Belfast once again, this time stopping in with the host of BBC Radio Ulster show ‘Beat Seekers’ and local DJ and producer, Reger.
Being somewhat new to the Irish DJ circuit, Robbie McCammon aka Reger started playing out in Belfast in 2019, and has since appeared at venues such as Ulster Sports Club, Thompson’s Garage and Palm House for events such as Misfit and Stereo Sessions.
In 2020, Robbie began work at BBC Radio Ulster’s Across The Line [Now Beat Seekers] showcasing exclusive Irish talent. Robbie’s passion for radio and showcasing new Irish talent, alongside influences from the likes of Special Request, Blawan, Overmono, Objekt, Andrew Weatherall, Gilles Peterson, Timmy Stewart and Carlton Doom all contributes to such a wide variety of sounds you hear within Reger productions and mixes.
While many will be familiar with Robbie as a DJ, Reger is the direction his music is heading, as his new music and style he’s been making compliments all the elements of bass, techno and harder broken-beat sounds to softer ambient and jazz music.
“The mix reflects my styles and influences massively – it’s more or less a full-night’s set I would play, but squeezed into 90-minutes (minus the face-melters… There’s a time and place for all that). A lot of the selections are all-time favourites and stuff I’m loving at the moment and I wanted to try get as much variety in there as possible.
All of the Reger tracks played are the more ‘subtle’ ones I’ve made over lockdown with ‘???’ coming out on a very special release soon, I teased it a bit in this mix! More on that one hopefully soon.
I’ve got a fast-growing pile of tunes growing in my ‘Unreleased’ folder so hopefully 2021 or ’22 is the year they will get out!
The MF DOOM record I played at the end was from GTA and I absolutely adore it. It was really upsetting to hear about his passing and I threw it in at the end just as a little tribute, alongside Mike Huckaby and Andrew Weatherall earlier in the mix. All legends within music and may they rest in peace!
So for the next hour and 30 minutes, enjoy this brilliant and diverse mix from Reger, recorded with decks and turntable… We love this mix.
