We’re in Dublin this week, as we hand the Local Selection controls over to a young DJ and producer making her mark in the Irish scene, sohotsospicy.
25 year old DJ, producer and co-founder of Thrust Collective, sohotsospicy has been coined “Dublin’s least boring DJ” – and if ths mix is anything to go by, we couldn’t agree more. With roots in Munich, Dublin, Leeds, and finally back to Dublin again, she has amassed an eclectic taste, which comes through in her massively energetic sets.
Like many of us she has spent her youth devouring a varied collection of music, from hip hop to rock music, and everything in between. Her style has brought the sounds of Jersey Club and Vogue House to Irish dancefloors and radio airwaves, bringing a refreshing change to the Irish house and techno scene. For anyone unfamiliar with this style, think bouncy 130-140bpm club music with elements of footwork, and hip hop and RnB samples.
She showcases her diverse influences on her monthly Dublin Digital Radio show “Play Nice with sohotsospicy”, in which she talks about her favourite artists growing up, like Timbaland, The Black Eyed Peas, and later on Cakes Da Killa and LSDXOXO. She has been lucky enough to open for LSDXOXO at the National College of Art and Design yearly ball, hosted by Safe Haus; getting to do so again later that year at District 8’s Halloween party, playing the main room alongside Aoife O’Neill and Randomer.
She has no doubt set herself apart in the Irish music scene and shows as such in her collaborative project “sodarksospicy” with darkmavis which premiered with us. Listen here.
For the next hour sohotsospicy will look after your Thursday afternoon sounds. Turn this one up and turn it up loud.
