Donabate native, Chósta (which beautifully translates to coast in Irish), has been plugging away defining his sound and productions for the last number of years.
He opens his account for 2021, with a release of two downtempo house tracks, reminiscing of early Nightmares On Wax and Smoker’s Delight vibes, which is exactly what we need to unwind after a long week.
As well as being busy making music, Chósta is a regular on Dublin Digital Radio, hosting a monthly radio show titled ‘Midnight Tapes’, which he co-runs with Ciaran Mulryan. The show is fairly broad, bringing together the pairs eclectic tastes, combining everything from Brazilian disco to ethereal ambient tunes.
“My influences, probably as wide ranging as the DDR show suggests. I love Irish trad such as Planxty as well as guitar bands like Girl Band and Iceage. I’m a big fan of J Dilla and Madlib’s sample based hip-hop production, which definitely seeps into my own music. I love so much electronic music, but I’d cite DJ Koze, Nicolas Jaar, Baba Stiltz, Mount Kimbie, Session Victim and Omar S as big influences, plus Boards of Canada and Burial, which I’ve possibly listened to them more than most artists in my lifetime”
