There’s nothing we love more than premiering new Irish music, and this one is particularly special as it is a collaboration between two friends, and Dublin up and coming producers who have managed to create a sound that brings an essence of the dance floor back to life at a time we need it most.

darkmavis and sohotsospicy‘s come together for this EP release aptly named ‘sodarksospicy’. This debut EP on Talamh Records releases on the 26th of March and features two original tracks from the duo, along with two remixes from both Cnámha and Sweet Philly. Glorified is an experimental club inspired banger featuring abstract vocal chops with tonnes of breaks and hardcore kicks.

whAt is a 140bpm dance floor ready stomper with hypnotic synth progressions building up to a climactic finish. The two tracks get the remix treatment from Sweet Philly and Cnámha, with Sweet Philly providing a bouncy Baltimore club inspired take on ‘Glorified’ while Cnámha shifts the mood of ‘whAt’ to a dark industrial track.

darkmavis on sodarksospicy:

This release randomly came together from me sending Aoife an extremely rough draft of a jersey club inspired track a couple of months ago. As a jersey club/vogue house DJ, Aoife suggested we work together on some productions and we ended up making two BANGERRRS over lockdown. The sound of the tracks and influences involved come from both our love of club music combined with tonnes of breaks and vocal chops and I brought in the hardcore/gabber influence heard with the extremely hard kicks throughout both the tracks. The remixes featured on the EP are SO sick too, and I am honoured to have two of my favourite Irish producers CNÁMHA and Sweet Philly release these remixes in collaboration with us on the EP, both of which you can hear their unique sound shine throughout. Also massive shout out to Aisling for the artwork and I cannot recommend her enough for commissions!

I was so excited to hear from Mark about his interest in club music production. I had so many ideas for making tracks so to collaborate with Mark seemed like an amazing opportunity. With both our unique tastes, to bring them together seemed like it would be an innovative sound that the Irish music scene was looking for. With his hardcore sound and my jersey club bounce roots, we knew we could produce some real STOMPERS that would go off in the clubs. The remixes from Sweet Philly and CNÁMHA bring the most from both spectrums of our tastes and I can’t wait to hear what everyone thinks of our EP!

The artwork for the EP was created by the excellent graphic designer, Aisling Phelan. You can follow her Instagram page here, plus her website portfolio here.

You can listen to the excellent ‘whAt’ from darkmavis & sohotsospicy all day and night below, plus support and purchase the full ‘sodarksospicy’ EP here.

There is no doubt a huge talent pool in Ireland, so we highly recommend that you follow our Premier playlist on SoundCloud, and turn this one to 10.
