Today we premiere yet another brilliant track, this time coming from young Dublin based DJ and producer, Mathew Day aka Taking Names.

Like most weeks we got sent a ton of new music and Mathew Day aka Taking Names was a name we were not familiar with, but certainly are now.

From his early days of playing piano and discovering the likes of Kraftwerk, The Sisters of Mercy and Depeche Mode through his father’s record collection, his passion for electronic music began.

After a few back and forth emails, Matthew spoke passionately about how his taste in music evolved to encompass electronic sounds from across the spectrum of electro, house, techno and bass music. Inspired by the wealth of talent in Ireland and abroad, his influences include Desert Sound Colony, Pepe, 96 Back and Long Island Sound to name a few.

Last year saw Matthew’s first release on the Birmingham label Fly By Night Recordings, an ethereal electro number to compliment a time where floating through space might be preferable. This year Matthew plans to expand his musical horizons in new directions with a back catalogue of unreleased tracks that grows week upon week as the lockdown continues, today culminating in his self released EP called Deep Blue, which also features a remix from The Droid, who we are fans of.

You can listen to ‘Deep Blue’ below, plus purchase the full release via Bandcamp here.
