One year on from ZISSOU and Julia Louise Knifefist’s ‘Fortune’ EP, they have now released the ‘Fortune Deluxe’ EP today, featuring remixes from some of Ireland’s brightest experimental artists. Complete with a release party taking place on Twitch in a virtual utopia created by Xulferdia.

In May last year, Irish based experimental artists Julia Louise Knifefist and ZISSOU dropped their Fortune EP, made together entirely during their five weeks of shared quarantine. The EP took shape while seeking influences from the sound of Swedish Label YEAR0001 with artists such as Bladee and Ecco2k, along with other artists such as Skepta and Toro y Mio. They also released a captivating music video featuring Julia himself looking super slick riding around the Wicklow Mountains on a quad bike.

Now, they are set to release ‘Fortune Deluxe’ featuring remixes from some of the countries most forward thinking artists such as Toké O’Drift, Rory Sweeney, An Eldritch Abomination and also from themselves. The remix EP puts a completely new spin on the original, with the tracks reimagined into many different forms with House, Gabber, Garage, Jungle and Deconstructed Club sounds heard throughout.

Julia Louise Knifefist & Zissou – Synthetic Drip (Music Video)

Julia Louise Knifefist, a Philadelphia born and Dublin based artist is known for his aggressive and hard hitting live sets which produce chaotic rave euphoria complete with his own vocals. His performance for Bitten Twice Collective’s live stream last year from Yamamori Tengu initially got me into his music after hearing how his experimental hardcore style comes together live, all programmed on an MPC.

Zissou aka Cóilín Phelan is a multidisciplinary artist, specialising in design and videography while also producing under the ZISSOU alias. He also keeps busy as Director of the scene heavyweights ‘Cabal’ who are a collective aimed at promoting creative culture in Ireland. Previously having broadcast club live streams from Sally C, R. Kitt, Skream and Quinton Campbell, as well as conducting a number of “behind closed door” events around the country at the end of lockdown last summer, featuring DJ Sets from locals such as Colin Perkinds, Shampain, sohotsospicy and EMA to name a few. With his work as ZISSOU he has produced for numerous artists along with his solo projects, which are in direct contrast to Julia’s hard hitting approach. The two styles clashed together beautifully in the Fortune EP and this latest edition is no different.
