And just like that, the Irish night time industry has been dealt a blow as the clubs and pubs proposed reopening date is pushed back.

In meetings today, the Cabinet has decided that all pubs and nightclubs in Ireland will remain closed till August 10th, due to an increase in Covid-19 cases.

Meanwhile, the wearing of face masks in shops as well as travel is likely to be made compulsory to help combat the spread of the virus, with fines of €2,500 or six months imprisonment, should people fail to comply.

Concerns have been made due to the rising number of new cases, which have been found particularly amongst young people, as the parks, bars and activities around the country begins to re-open.

Dr Ronan Glynn, who is chief medical officer for the Department of Health, said: “We are at a sensitive stage in the pandemic – this requires caution and collective effort to hold firm and keep the virus suppressed in the community.
