Turks Head venue under threat as Hotel development looms

The Turks Head could be another venue lost next year as it and its accompanying Hotel go up for sale

Located in the Temple Bar area, the Paramount Hotel and it’s well-known Turks Head bar are up for sale. Expecting to attract a lot of attention from international hotel chains, the location could be soon filled. If we can take anything from our trials and tribulations with venue closures and gentrification over the past few years, when a location is up for sale in the city centre there is certainly no consideration for nightclubs that exist there.

The Turks Head continues to provide an alternative venue space that hosts shows from all genres. Reggae, Ska, Drum & Bass, Trance, House, Techno and many more genres, Turks Head is definitely a spot of varied of flavours.

Although nothing has been confirmed on whether the Turks Head will remain, the already built hotel with planning permission to add more rooms will definitely be an easy purchase for any hotel chain. Planning permission is granted for the increase in the current room count, from 66 to 117 bedrooms, alongside another planning application which is pending, that wants to bring that number to 130 suites.

Paul Collins of CBRE’s hotel and licensed division says: “The sale of the Paramount Hotel offers Irish and international investors an outstanding opportunity to acquire a prime hotel in a key international capital city. Established hotels in Dublin city centre hotels rarely come to the market and this sale is especially significant as the Paramount Hotel is being offered with the benefit of full planning permission for additional rooms.

“The successful purchaser will have the choice to continue trading under the already well-established and independent Paramount Hotel name or, an international hotel brand. Many international hotel companies are extremely eager to establish a flagship presence and their brand in the Dublin city centre market.”

A quote taking from an Irish Times article shows how attractive the offer will be to various hotel chains, leaving no room for interest in preserving the Turks Head itself. We’ll have to wait and see how this one turns out.
