While we’ve been locked away all summer and the mirage of gigs and festivals is away in the distance, a lot of people have been working on their own projects and using the time wisely.

Among these are ‘The Lock Up‘, who are part of a sound and production company in Dundalk. While lockdown has taken the prospect of curating unique stages and vast sound systems, the guys have focused their efforts into creating a video series. The aim of this video series is to show the talents on offer in Dundalk, and eventually further afield.

One of the first people to participate in the video series was Dundalk native, Darren Cooney aka DECKSTA. Darren is a well renowned DJ across the Irish festival and gig circuit, founding the Couch collective and being a core member of Common Ground. “As well as Mac’s closing, we currently have zero venues we can hold gigs in so the Lockup video series was a no brainer for me personally“, he explained.

With a setup, unparalleled to any in the country at the moment, it is definitely worth taking a look at the layout and enjoying Darren’s set which varies from 2 step garage, electro, dubstep, and ends on drum’n’bass. “My set was a chance to show how diverse I am as a DJ and to play stuff that I absolutely love.

The video series includes a conversation with the artist and the set is then broken down in different videos to be released sequentially. This is a fantastic way to show people your own sound and ability, as we all know too well it can be hard to play the music you want if you are the warm up for an event.

The next part of Darren’s set goes live this week on The Lock Up’s YouTube channel here. In the meantime, check out the first two parts below.
