Electric Picnic is over, the wristband is off, and reality is setting back in. If you’re feeling a little worse for wear today. Here are five things to do once you’re home to help your body and mind recover.
Prioritise sleep
Sleep deprivation is often one of the biggest factors behind the post-festival crash. Try to return to your usual sleeping and waking times rather than sleeping through the day. Morning daylight, a consistent routine and avoiding too much caffeine late in the day can help your body clock readjust.
Rehydrate properly
Dancing, heat and alcohol can all contribute to fluid loss. Drink water regularly once you’re home, and if you’ve been sweating heavily for a prolonged period, consider replacing electrolytes through food or an oral rehydration solution.
Get your eating schedule back to normal
Festival routines often mean irregular meals and plenty of quick carbohydrates from food stalls. Once you’re home, return to regular, balanced meals with carbohydrates, protein, fruit and vegetables. There’s no need for a restrictive diet or “detox”, just get back to eating normally.
Look after your mental health
Going from several days of stimulation and socialising back to everyday life can feel strange. Low mood, irritability or anxiety can happen after a festival, particularly when sleep has been disrupted. Rest, food, hydration and spending time with people you trust can help.
Be kind to yourself
Feeling a little low after a festival is not unusual. Give yourself time to readjust and try not to be too hard on yourself. Think about the good parts: the artists you discovered, people you met and memories you made, and remember that it’s okay to take things slowly when you get home.
