First Music Contact (FMC), the Irish information and advice service for musicians and the independent music sector, has launched a new industry-wide survey focused on pay and working conditions across music.

The survey will be presented directly to government bodies and funding organisations, with the aim of influencing future policy and support structures. FMC is encouraging responses from across the ecosystem, from artists and promoters to writers, editors and industry workers, stressing that perspectives from music media are particularly important.

This follows FMC’s previous sectoral survey, the findings of which played a key role in securing the permanence of Ireland’s Basic Income for the Arts scheme. With that milestone achieved, the organisation says its next priority is improving conditions for those working across the wider industry who remain underpaid or unsupported.

All responses are completely anonymous, and participants are also encouraged to share the survey within their own networks to help ensure broad representation.

The survey closes this Friday, 19 December. You can take part here.
