Berlin club Renate has fallen on even harder times.

The club was the victim of a fire last night that seriously damaged parts of the building and its iconic garden. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but the full extent of the structural damage is not yet known.

The fire comes just months after the announcement that Renate would close permanently due to “the expiry of the lease agreement with the notorious property investor Gijora Padovicz.”

“Despite intensive efforts to find an extension to the contract or alternative solutions, the club operators have to face the fact that Renate will no longer be able to continue in its current form.” They stated in August 2024.

After 18 years of operation, Renate was already approaching its final chapter, and this damage is a cruel blow as the club prepares for its last curtain call.
