After broadcasting over 13,000 radio shows, Refuge Worldwide is stepping into a new chapter, launching a record label, the first of which is a fundraising compilation to support the station, with music donated by 28 of their residents.
The new Refuge Worldwide label aims to showcase the wealth of talent that’s long surrounded the Berlin-based station. It will serve as a home for the artists who have been shaping the sound of the community, both in the studio at Niemetzstraße and beyond.
The label’s debut release, RW000, is a fundraising compilation created to support the station’s ongoing work. Featuring contributions from 28 Refuge residents, the project captures the full sonic spectrum that defines the Refuge ethos.
The debut offering covers the station’s full spectrum from ambient and R&B to jazz, experimental electronics, breaks, and techno. True to its roots in community radio, a few a acapella skits even make an appearance, adding that on-air feel.
The compilation includes artists such as Steve Bicknell, Move78, Yasmin Umay, chali, Henry Weekes, Sky Deep, Berenice Llorens, Monty Luke, Refuge team members eioo, gugol maps or Obelix and many more.
