City officials and BVG are bringing techno back underground, quite literally, underground.

The Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG), the city’s public transport authority, has announced it is exploring the possibility of hosting live DJ performances in U-Bahn stations across the city. The concept is part of a broader cultural initiative aimed at reactivating public space, supporting local artists, and giving commuters a more cultural transport experience, reflective of Berlin.

“Bring the lively and vibrant Berlin into the station,” said one BVG representative. While no stations have been confirmed yet, the idea is to pilot performances during specific time slots, especially in high-footfall areas like Alexanderplatz, Kottbusser Tor, and Hermannplatz.

BVG is also planning “station tours for diverse groups,” including seniors, queer people, and students, with the aim of boosting their self-confidence and sense of security while using public transit. According to the proposal, stations like Kotti could soon become spaces that feel not only safe, but also musical and innovative.
