BICEP have unveiled Takkuuk, a collaborative audiovisual installation created with Indigenous artists from across the Arctic, exploring culture, climate, and community.
In 2022, Belfast-born electronic duo BICEP were invited by the charity In Place of War to take part in a creative expedition to the Arctic, as part of the EarthSonic Project, a global initiative exploring the intersection of climate and culture through sound. With Matt McBriar staying behind for the birth of his first child, Andy Ferguson made the journey to Greenland. That trip would mark the beginning of Takkuuk, a project that would evolve over the next two and a half years into something far beyond a typical music release.
The project premiered on July 1st at Outernet London. Takkuuk is BICEP’s first full-length soundtrack and most ambitious visual collaboration to date. Built in close partnership with seven Indigenous artists from across the Arctic, the work spans film, installation, and original music. Directed by longtime visual collaborator Zak Norman and filmmaker Charlie Miller, Takkuuk dives deep into stories of Indigenous identity, resilience, and the rapidly changing Arctic landscape, both physical and cultural.
The project’s title comes from the Inuktitut word “Takkuuk,” meaning “look”, not just to see, but to pay close attention. The name was gifted by throat-singing duo Silla, one of the featured collaborators.

What began as an idea to co-create music after the Arctic Sounds Festival quickly changed to something much more substantial. Sharing these stories of: what life is like in the Arctic today, what’s being lost, and what’s still being protected.
Each artist was filmed in their home environment, their narratives forming the heart of the project. BICEP produced the soundtrack in a collaborative, supportive role, shaping a sonic landscape that let each artist’s voice lead. The result is a rich, textured body of work rooted in community, tradition, and the urgent realities of climate change.
Rather than centring themselves, Bicep stepped back, helping craft a unified sound that honours diverse languages, musical styles, and histories across the Arctic. Takkuuk is less about the duo’s own musical identity and more about facilitating the connection between artists, stories, and audiences around the world.
Takkuuk is now live at Outernet and will tour globally throughout the year. The full soundtrack drops July 25th via Ninja Tune and EarthSonic.
