It’s finally happening, Dublin is getting a Metrolink connecting the airport to the city centre.
An Coimisiún Pleanála confirmed the news this morning, publishing the Railway Order that officially gives the €9.5 billion project the go-ahead.
The 18.8km line will run mostly underground, stretching from Charlemont in the south of the city to Swords Estuary in the north, with a key stop at Dublin Airport. First proposed in 2000 and shelved during the financial crisis, the project has been in limbo for over two decades.
For nightlife and cultural tourism, the impact could be significant. A direct link between the airport and city centre makes late-night travel safer and more accessible, while also strengthening Dublin’s appeal as a destination for clubbers and festival-goers.
