An emergency motion to save The Complex has been passed by Dublin City Council (DCC), marking a significant moment in the campaign to secure its future.
Green Party councillor Janet Horner announced on Instagram yesterday evening that her proposal to protect the Smithfield-based arts space had received council approval.
The motion calls for urgent action at national level to prevent the loss of the venue, which has become a cornerstone of Dublin’s contemporary cultural life.
“The ball is now in the court of Ministers Simon Harris, Jack Chambers and Patrick O’Donovan, to put their money where their mouth is,” she wrote.
The vote follows an intensive campaign in December, when The Complex renewed its call for support as efforts to secure its building reached a critical stage. More than 15,000 people signed an Uplift petition initiated by Alternative Dublin, urging the Department of Finance to back the purchase of the venue’s long-term home.
