Emma Martin’s Night Dances made it’s debut at the Abbey Theatre during the Dublin Dance Festival 2024, and now its raw, high-energy choreography is touring Ireland, bringing Martin’s amalgamation of dance, music, and unfiltered emotion to audiences nationwide.
Night Dances is an ode to pure, physical movement—a sweaty, captivating performance brimming with unrest, optimism, and freedom. Set to Daniel Fox’s unforgiving club-esque rhythms, the show unfolds in four dynamic scenes, each exploring different facets of dance culture. From frenzied club nights to ritualistic ceremonies, the performance pulls audiences into a world where rhythm speaks a unifying language.
Night Dances, which was co-produced by the Dublin Theatre Festival, features a stellar ensemble that includes Robyn Byrne, Jonas Krämer, Aoife McAtamney, Ryan O’Neill, and Jessie Thompson, as well as talented Studio 85 dancers. With lighting by Stephen Dodd and costumes by Katie Davenport, the production combines striking visuals and a pulsating soundtrack to create a palpable energy.
Emma Martin, a former ballet dancer turned multidisciplinary artist, has made a name for herself with work that blends high art and underground culture. Night Dances strips dance down to its raw essence, seamlessly merging chaos and precision in a performance that hits deep.
