GOTEC Club has raised concerns over the rising cost of club culture, warning that rapidly increasing DJ fees could put the financial sustainability of clubs, promoters and independent events under pressure.
The German club claims that international DJ fees have increased by as much as 200–300% in some cases over a relatively short period, while operational expenses for staffing, production, security and energy continue to climb.
GOTEC acknowledges the right of artists to fair compensation but states that the pace of these increases is making the environment increasingly challenging for event organisers, many of whom have to make substantial upfront investments and face financial risks.
The club also warns that rising costs could eventually be passed on to audiences through higher ticket and drink prices, making nightlife less accessible at a time when consumers are already facing economic pressures.
“Electronic music must not become a luxury. It must remain accessible and affordable,” the statement reads.
Rather than directing blame at artists, GOTEC says it wants to open a wider conversation about the economic realities facing the industry, encouraging greater understanding between artists, agents, promoters and venues.
The statement concludes with a broader warning about the future of the scene, arguing that without a sustainable financial foundation, cultural diversity, independent events and opportunities for emerging artists could be at risk.
