Gravity Hits, the electronic music station run by Irish broadcaster Emerald Media Group (EMG), is expanding onto FM for a 30-day run across four cities, adding to its existing presence on the national FáilteDAB trial and its online and smart speaker streams.
From August 14, the station broadcasts on 105.2 FM in Dublin, 87.7 FM in Cork, 105.5 FM in Limerick, and 87.9 FM in Galway, alongside its ongoing national DAB+ service on MUX 1 and MUX 2.
Gravity Hits is one of Ireland’s homes for electronic music, championing homegrown artists alongside some of the world’s most cutting-edge and coveted artists and sounds. The station has built its identity around supporting Irish DJs and producers, and has now formalised a partnership with Dublin nightclub Twenty Two for a weekly live broadcast, airing Saturday nights direct from the venue.
“By bringing Gravity Hits to the FM dial for this 30-day window, we are promoting the extraordinary talent of Irish DJs and producers to an even wider audience,” said Gerry Stevens, Programme Director for Gravity Hits.
“This FM expansion, coupled with our robust DAB+ presence and our exclusive live broadcast partnership with Twenty Two, creates a unique, multi-platform electronic music destination that is unprecedented in the Irish broadcasting industry.”
The FM push marks one of the more concrete signs of terrestrial investment in Irish dance music radio, at a time when DAB+ rollout across the country remains in trial phase. Whether the 30-day window becomes permanent will likely hinge on how the station’s numbers hold up against the FM incumbents in each market.
