We took the time out to celebrate some of our favourite female DJs from the aisle of Ireland for International Women’s Day. Let’s celebrate the women in dance music and commend their achievements, because it hasn’t always been that easy.

We complied a list of just some of our favourite female DJs from Irish shores, in celebration of International Women’s Day. This list is in no particular order and we’re aware that we have left out many very talented DJs.

Saoirse: Saoirse Ryan aka as Saoirse has been collecting and playing records for well over a decade. Having rose to prominence in recent times, becoming a regular in London venues such as Fabric, Phonox, Night Tales & more, Saoirse is becoming a household name as an excellent selector through out Europe. The eclectic selctor has no qualms with sharing the stage with DJ Stingray, Objekt, Bicep & more.

Yasmin Gardezi: Cork native Yasmin Gardezi has been going from strength to strength in recent years. Becoming a festival favourite through out the country playing her signature sound of techno. Yasmin has been belting it out up and down the country with stand out performances at Shine, Boxed Off, Circles & more.

EMA: Woozy boss EMA has been carving a serious name for herself in Ireland and Europe within the last few years. Ireland’s favourite bass merchant has been featuring on lineups all over Ireland and the UK, as well as curating some of Ireland’s most forward thinking lineups in Tengu. Stand out mixes coming on The Loft, Keep Hush, NTS & Rinse have been showcasing EMA’s talent as one of Ireland’s best selectors.

Ellll: Ellen King aka Ellll has been continuously pushing for a more contemporary sound and striving for a more divergent dance music scene, both within the club and its surrounding circles. Releasing on labels such as Glacial Industries, First Second Label, Local Action, Femme Culture and more. Ellen’s experimental fusion of divergent genres creates an eclectic cocktail of dance floor bliss.

Efa O’neil: Out Of Space boss Efa O’neil has been holding it down as one of Ireland’s most respected selectors for some time. A varied selection of acid, breaks, house, jungle, downtempo, electro and far more, have garnered her name as an in demand and esteemed selector. Stand out mixes for Boiler Room, Redlight Radio, Rinse, District 8 and more, are just a taste of the Kerry native can provide in the booth.

Maedbh O’Connor: DIE resident and Limerick native, Maedbh O’Connor has been a staple in the Irish techno scene for the last decade. Maedbh provides a hard hitting and cutting edge techno sound in every set she plays, weaving through techno, electro, hard dance and more, the versatile DJ has always got a few tricks up her sleeve. Big performances at Boxed Off, Life Festival, Dimensions and more have solidified Maedbh’s name as one of Ireland’s most admired techno DJs.

Sally C: One of the most successful Irish DJs in recent times is Berlin based Sally C. Sally’s signature sound of pumping house has found her playing all over the globe and sharing the stage with some of the best in the world including; Honey Dijon, Palms Trax, Orbital and more. The birth of Sally’s label, Big Saldo’s Chunkers last summer was a pinnace moment in Sally’s career. With a stacked next few months for Sally and more chunkers on the horizon, we can expect to be seeing a lot more of Sally.

Cailín: One of Ireland’s most undisputed technically gifted DJs, Cailín is next on our list. The Waterford native has been gigging up and down the country for years now and is adaptable to any situation in any venue. Cailín has been throwing down all vinyl sets alongside industry titans including Dave Clarke, Jeff Mills, Dax J, DVS1, Ben Sims and more. Cailín has also released on Ben Sim’s Symbolism label, [R]3volution Records and All City’s Gurriers imprint.

Shannen Blessing: Our list now takes a turn to a rising star, in the name of Shannen Blessing. Shannen has been grafting on the Dublin scene for the last few years and is rising to prominence in 2022. A recent appearance on Hoer Berlin has many people talking about Shannen’s swift skills on the decks. Shannen has shared the stage with techno heavyweights such as, DVS1, Sunil Sharpe, Lag, Introversion, Inhalt Der Nacht and Parallx. Shannen is on a steady rise and we expect to see plenty more from her this year.

Cáit: Cáit Fahey has been gracing the decks in some of Ireland and Berlin’s most cherished booths in recent years. The Radiant Love resident has a distinct yet broad spanning taste in music. Energetic house, breaks, acid, electro and more can be found in Cáit’s record bag. Playing alongside Pearson Sound, Octa Octa, Floating Points, and more, the Irish selector is comfortable dipping in and out of genre’s, with great ease.
