Ireland’s vinyl revival continues to soar, with 478,000 records sold in 2025, a staggering 20% increase over 2024.

Irish acts played a significant role in this resurgence, with Fontaines D.C., Kneecap, Kingfishr, CMAT, and Amble all featuring in the top 10.

Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl claimed the year’s highest sales with 42,747 copies sold. Among Irish artists, Fontaines D.C. led the way with 7,795 sales for their album Romance.

The vinyl boom has also driven broader physical music sales, with CDs up 4.5% and cassettes surging 64%. Globally, the vinyl market is projected to grow at an average annual rate of 11.1%, rising from an estimated USD 2.42 billion in 2025 to USD 5.06 billion by 2032.

While chart-topping pop albums seem to dominate the vinyl revival, questions remain about the broader culture. How many of these buyers are regular contributors to the vinyl ecosystem? Limited edition releases and vintage repressings certainly fuel the boom, but sustainability for independent artists remains uncertain. Although any upward trend in vinyl sales is positive, it’s worth considering whether these statistics fully reflect the diversity of the wider vinyl ecosystem.
