Cork’s historic Savoy is set to return this February, reopening over Valentine’s Weekend as a live music venue and cultural space with a capacity of around 600. The move brings one of the city’s most recognisable buildings back into active use after a decade-long closure.
First opening its doors in 1932 as a cinema, the Savoy has been intertwined with Cork’s cultural identity for generations. Over the years, it evolved into a major concert venue, welcoming artists as varied as The Rolling Stones, Run DMC and Damon Albarn, while also playing a formative role in the early days of the Cork Film Festival.
The newly redeveloped venue will operate across two spaces, a main room and a more intimate upstairs lounge, designed to prioritise sound quality, clear sightlines and a closer connection between artists and audiences. The overall scale has been deliberately kept smaller than previous iterations to suit contemporary live performances.
The Savoy’s reopening on February 14 will be marked by a launch event featuring local brass collective BoolaBoom, Spanish guitar duo Zurito and soul outfit The Leon Stax Equation. Additional shows and events are expected to be announced in the weeks following the relaunch.
