For the latest edition of our Local Selection series, we welcome Dublin DJ Dylan Shields, aka The Dogfather, to the mix with a spinning selection of smoggy house cuts.

At just 21 years old, Dylan has been behind the decks for nearly three years, developing a sound rooted in house music with a growing pull towards darker, deeper territory. His approach is as much about the people around the music as it is the music itself. Placing community, friendship and creating shared experiences at the heart of what it means to be a DJ.

Dylan cites Dublin scene pioneer Eric Brown as a major inspiration, highlighting his selfless approach to supporting those around him and making sure everyone has a place at the table. That same ethos runs through Dylan’s own perspective: being part of the scene, rather than simply being in it, and recognising that the moments away from the decks can be just as important as those behind them.

Alongside DJing, Dylan has recently begun developing his own productions, with a recent release on Foundations Records and more new material in the works for the months ahead.

For this Local Selection guest mix, the young selector delves into murkier, more hypnotic realms of house, weaving together cavernous rolling rhythms, descending chords, string sections and two-stepping grooves. It’s a heads-down approach, with each track melting seamlessly into the next to create a cauldron of smouldering, gnarly sounds. a mix you can sink your teeth into, before slowly finding yourself submerged in the dark, hypnotic ether.
