Rooted in the darker side of electronic music and shaped by years spent immersed in dimly lit rooms and packed dancefloors, Connor Young’s sound is driven by a deep connection to club culture and the energy of the dancefloor.
His sonic palette is eclectic, moving across house, electro, breaks and beyond, but deep, trudging and hypnotic techno is where his heart lies. For Connor, it is more than a sound. It’s a feeling and an ethos. He has immersed himself in the culture surrounding the music, travelling far & wide for parties and absorbing the different ways it can be presented, from the mechanics of tension and release within a DJ set to the more physical relationship between sound, space and movement.
That experience feeds directly back into his approach at home in Derry. Behind the decks, Connor is concerned with how a room moves, flows and feels, building sets that develop organically while maintaining a strong sense of tension and momentum.
Connor is also a driving force behind Mosaic, the Derry-based collective and event series he co-founded. Built around a shared passion for stripped-back club experiences, Mosaic aims to create intimate, forward-thinking events while providing a platform for emerging and established artists pushing their sound forward.
For his local selection, Connor digs deep into a cavernous strain of minimal, stripped-back and muscular techno. Beginning with dizzying, hypnotic sounds before slipping into warped, slippery minimalism and gradually giving way to more driving, ’90s-adjacent cuts. It is a sound shaped through long nights spent in dark rooms, refined through years of listening, travelling and dancing, tried and tested, without the bullshit. Real techno, made to make you move.
