Colombian techno label Mammboh Rhythms has rallied more than 30 artists from across the international underground for United for Colombia, a 32-track charity compilation raising funds for communities affected by the devastating earthquake that struck Colombia this week.
Released Wednesday, August 12, the VA brings together a heavyweight cast from the techno and wider electronic music community, including Sons Of Hidden, Serge André, Lars Huismann, Maōh, Obscure Shape, Isaiah, Brennen Grey, Fixon, Fresko, Frazi.er, Janein, Ricardo Garduno, Red Noise and more.
The initiative is focused particularly on Chocó, one of the regions hardest hit by the disaster and among Colombia’s most underserved areas. Funds will also be directed towards verified relief organisations in Pereira and Cali, as well as a dedicated fund supporting Colombian artists and producers who have lost their homes.
The project was initiated by Medellín-based live artist and Mammboh Rhythms founders Sons Of Hidden and Serge André, who turned to the label’s international network to create an immediate response to the crisis.
“This is one of those moments when, as a community, we show the values that have been built into the foundations of our movement,” says Sons Of Hidden. “It’s time to come together for those who need it most today. Let the music never stop, because it hasn’t always been about celebration, it has also been about resistance.”
“As artists, I believe we have a social responsibility,” Serge André says. “Art has always been a force for change, a form of resistance and a revolutionary movement. Now is the time to use that power for something greater than ourselves.”
