Max HeyraudOne of the highlights of the Irish music calendar, the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival returns from October 22–26 for its 48th edition, with legendary New York house duo Masters At Work among the acts performing in Cork.
The gathering brings five days of jazz, electronic music, funk, soul and everything orbiting the jazz ethos to Cork. More than 500 musicians are set to take over 80-plus venues across the city, with the programme once again spanning established jazz figures, contemporary artists and the festival’s renowned Guinness Music Trail.
One of the weekend’s biggest draws comes courtesy of Masters At Work, the legendary New York production and DJ duo of Little Louie Vega and Kenny “Dope” Gonzales.
Presented by Subject x Guinness Cork Jazz, the pair will reunite at Cork Opera House on Friday, October 23rd, marking their first performance together in Ireland in more than 20 years.
Few acts have left as deep a mark on house music as Masters At Work. Across their extensive catalogue, Vega and Gonzales helped blur the boundaries between house, jazz, soul, disco, Latin music and hip-hop, developing a sound that has influenced generations of DJs and producers. Their appearance adds a distinctly club-focused edge to this year’s Cork Jazz Festival, reflecting the increasingly fluid relationship between jazz and contemporary dance music.
