The Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport, Patrick O’Donovan, has announced a series of funding schemes designed to increase public access to the arts and Ireland’s National Collections. The four programmes form part of the Department’s strategy to support local creative initiatives, strengthen cultural participation, and promote heritage tourism across the country.
The Small-Scale Local Festivals and Summer Schools Scheme will provide financial support to community-based cultural events that may not qualify for larger national funding programmes. The scheme is intended to assist smaller festivals, summer schools, and local cultural gatherings, with grants of up to €5,000 available. Applications close on 2 April 2026, with funding allocated through a competitive process.
The Co-operation with Northern Ireland Scheme encourages cultural collaboration across the island of Ireland, supporting projects with strong North–South elements. Funding of up to €15,000 is available for initiatives that enhance, celebrate, or commemorate the artistic, cultural, musical, film, or heritage contributions of both jurisdictions.
To bring national treasures closer to local audiences, the Mobility of Collections Scheme will fund the transport, insurance, and exhibition costs for pieces from Ireland’s National Collections to regional and local institutions. This initiative aims to widen public access to historically significant material while enriching cultural life outside the capital.
The Regional Museum Exhibitions Scheme will provide capital funding to museums seeking to enhance their exhibition spaces, encourage greater visitor engagement, and promote museums as tourism attractions within their communities.
Speaking today, Minister O’Donovan said he was delighted to launch the schemes, describing them as “vital in supporting our culture and the arts, enriching our daily lives and strengthening our communities.” He emphasised the schemes’ role in boosting Ireland’s cultural tourism offering while celebrating and protecting the nation’s shared heritage. “I would like to wish all applicants every success with their submissions”.
