Ministry of Sound is revisiting a piece of its early club history with a limited-edition run of MA-1 bomber jackets, created in collaboration with Alpha Industries and artist Chemical X.
Launching at London’s Dover Street Market during Frieze Week, the collection comprises just 35 jackets, each individually signed and numbered, with bespoke embroidery by Chemical X, the artist behind Ministry of Sound’s original logo.
First commissioned in 1991, the original Alpha Industries jackets were made for the club’s doormen and were never commercially available. The distinctive MA-1 bombers became part of Ministry’s visual identity during its formative years, their exclusivity helping turn them into coveted pieces of London club memorabilia.
“If you were wearing one, you were part of the club, and because you couldn’t buy one, people wanted them even more,” Alpha Industries said of the original jackets.
The new release brings the three collaborators back together more than three decades later, with Chemical X reworking the design through embroidery inspired by the evolution of the Ministry of Sound logo.
The launch forms part of Ministry of Sound’s 35th-anniversary celebrations, which have also included a major renovation of the club’s main room and an international tour.
