Belfast techno mechanic Cricky Lyttle provides this week’s Mix Of The Week as he joins the Strobe Events podcast. Few DJs on the island of Ireland can compete with Cricky’s intensity and visceral style, and his most recent mix is no exception, Lyttle wastes no time getting stuck into gritty cuts with a signature no-holds-barred approach.

Cricky Lyttle makes his debut in our Mix Of The Week series, and this week’s instalment is nothing short of a masterclass. Cricky’s near-hip-hop mixing style is a choppy and high-octane approach to techno, similar to Dave Clarke or DJ Bone’s. Lyttle cuts between tracks with ease, rarely blending but frequently brazenly throwing tracks. Cricky flexes his dynamic mixing style through scratching, cutting, braking, and looping, and he does it with extreme poise.

Cricky’s attention to detail when it comes to each mix is unrivalled as he beat matches, loops and cuts with tenacity and precision. Cricky effortlessly controls multiple decks, experimenting with one track before driving a bulldozer kick over the top of it, weaving in acapellas, drum workouts, and more. This is a genuine assault on the senses.

On Four Four Magazine, we frequently discuss the art of the selector and DJs DJ, but we sometimes forget to credit those who are surgical masters of track manipulation, and Cricky is certainly one of them. In an era when DJing has never been easier and many people prefer to play it safe, Cricky rejects this and pushes forward. A true craftsman.
