This week’s entry to Mix of the Week comes from a new name in Dublin’s techno orbit: Emily Crowe. Her mix “Dabih,” part of her Constellation Mix Series, is a juggernaut of uncompromising, forward-driving, stripped-back techno.

Ireland, and Dublin in particular, has become a breeding ground for techno talent, with a relentless stream of new and exciting artists pushing through. Emily Crowe is one of the latest to land on our radar, delivering the second instalment of her Constellation series.

Techno is a broad church, a genre in constant evolution and flux. Some strands take on entirely new forms, occasionally unrecognisable from their roots, while others subtly rework the past, nudging things forward without losing sight of what made them work in the first place. Crowe’s mix sits firmly in that space. It feels like a careful concoction of records that retain the raw, physical energy at the core of techno, while avoiding the trap of lingering too long in “classic” territory. There’s a sense of movement here, towards something grainier, slightly blurred at the edges, but never at the expense of impact or that low-end growl purists crave.

Her mixing complements the selection perfectly: rough, abrasive, but tight. There are no airs or graces, and none are needed. Tracks collide and wrestle with each other in a way that feels natural and organic. That tension, often mistaken for messiness, becomes a strength here. It’s direct, unpolished, and unapologetic, telling a story without overcomplicating it.
