OneCanChan brought the heat to Tengu’s red-lit, smoke-filled room with a two-and-a-half-hour session, laying the groundwork for Ian Pooley’s return to Dublin over the bank holiday weekend.
Equinox brought bona fide German house music royalty Ian Pooley to Ireland for a weekend of shows across Dublin and Cork last weekend. A welcome return for an artist who needs absolutely no introduction, with a discography and career quite literally etched in gold. So, warming up for an artist of this calibre deserves its own due diligence, and OneCanChan delivered just that.
Writing via Instagram, OneCanChan described Pooley as a “big inspiration throughout my DJing journey and whose music I look back on fondly when I first started clubbing”. That admiration and deep understanding of Pooley’s sound and aesthetic came through in every selection. Swinging, pumping drums, filtered chords and stabs oozing with analogue warmth, alongside dazzling pads that felt capable of lighting up the entire room.
Pooley has a distinct sonic palette. It’s classic, timeless and unmistakably his own; a sound cast in concrete, seemingly untouched by time. Paying tribute to that legacy is no small feat, but OneCanChan did so mesmerisingly, capturing the spirit of Pooley’s sound while making the warm-up entirely their own. Bravo.
