This week’s Mix Of The Week comes from one of Ireland’s fastest rising star’s when it comes to all things soulful and funky, Ricky Chong. Sligo native Ricky Chong has uploaded the live recording from his Electric Picnic debut at The Casa Bacardi stage, and it’s an hour and a half of eloquent house, disco and funk soaked rhythms.

Rick Chong’s journey to becoming one of the most in demand and well respected selector’s within the realm of house, disco and funk came from a residency with Sligo’s Faint collective. Ricky learned his craft in the early hours of the night, warming for countless internationals and meticulously selecting records to set the tone of the night.

Fast forward to 2022 and Ricky’s name can be spotted at event’s all over the country, from festivals to clubs Ricky has earned his spot as a regular in Ireland’s competitive DJ circuit. The young DJ has caught the eye of key tastemakers in Ireland such as AVA, Index and Life Festival, as well as regularly warming up for Galway’s Shampain. Ricky’s knowledge of warm up set’s and a keen ear for selecting rare groove cuts makes him an indispensable cog in Ireland’s club circuit.

Ricky’s sets are journeys through funk, rare groove, house and back around the block again which make him an eclectic and functional DJ for many club nights. His debut release on Edinburgh’s Fresh Take Records gives you a taste of his productions to come, and if his DJ set’s are anything to go by, future releases will be steeped in soulful groove.

Ricky’s set at the esteemed Casa Bacardi stage at Electric Picnic is business as usual as the young DJ navigates his way through a multitude of mood’s and atmospheres. From disco, house, funk and soul, Ricky glides through genres and decades with absolute ease. Ricky’s ability to waver through divergent mood’s in a testament to his hours perfecting his craft and this is an exemplary showcase of what he can do.
