This week’s Mix of the Week comes from two members of Autonomy London, Sean Nolan and notjack, the Irish collective bringing that unmistakable Irish energy to London. They bring exactly that in this recording from their set at Tola in Peckham.
Autonomy London’s bio reads: “Raised by Ireland, now in London, inspired by both. Built to dance.” And this 90-minute mix from two of the four founders feels like a direct reflection of that mantra. Recorded live from Tola in the heart of Peckham, Sean Nolan and notjack sift through a wide, sprawling selection of tracks that keeps the energy constantly shifting.
There’s that familiar Irish feeling of “this could go anywhere” running throughout, and it does. Soulful deep house, disco-lathered cuts, techno-adjacent pumpers, and heavy artillery breaks and bass are all on display here. It’s a jerking, high-energy thriller that holds no bars when it comes to what to expect next.
The two selectors are clearly inspired by the UK’s bass-heavy musical history, digging their teeth into meaty 35Hz sub-rollers, but never letting that energy soak up the floor entirely. Instead, they move into techy and soulful turns, the kind that feel fitting for Irish selectors carrying a no-fucks-given energy. It’s something DJs can often lose as they get older, that natural, off-the-cuff, playful approach, but that’s not the case here.
This is an all-encompassing, frenzied ride that feels perfectly fitting for what these selectors are about.
