Legendary Irish vocalist Moya Brennan, lead singer of Clannad, has died aged 73.
The Donegal-born singer, songwriter and harpist passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family.
Brennan was a central figure in Clannad, the group that brought Irish-language and Celtic music to an international audience. Their 1982 hit Harry’s Game marked a breakthrough moment, earning global recognition and chart success.
Over a career spanning decades, she recorded more than 30 albums and won multiple awards, including a Grammy and a BAFTA. She also enjoyed a successful solo career and collaborated with artists such as Bono and Hans Zimmer.
She was also widely recognised for her vocals on Saltwater by Chicane. The track became an international hit and introduced her voice to a new global audience beyond traditional Irish music.
Brennan was born in Gaoth Dobhair and grew up speaking and living the Irish language and culture, which influenced her music and artistry heavily.
