This film goes into the label’s rich history and lasting effect as it begins a new chapter under Armada Music’s direction.
Established in 1993 by Hisa Ishioka, King Street Sounds quickly became a cornerstone of house music, deeply rooted in both NYC’s and Japan’s underground scenes. Known for iconic releases by artists like Blaze, Barbara Tucker, Dennis Ferrer, and Kerri Chandler, the label has held its place as a respected force in dance music, honouring its origins while evolving with new generations. This 35-minute documentary follows King Street Sounds’ journey from its roots at New York City’s iconic Paradise Garage to its new era with Armada Music, featuring insights from house music legends such as DJ Spinna, Barbara Tucker, Ultra Naté, Blaze, and David Morales, as well as rising talents such as Kasango and House Gospel Choir’s Natalie Maddix. This Thursday, November 14, the film will be released online, recognising the label’s profound effect on house music while looking ahead to its expanding future.
