The 17th edition of Culture Night takes place across Ireland this evening. The Arts Council have programmed a number of events celebrating culture, creativity and the arts, and we have the low down of what’s going down and where.

Culture Night is a national moment, celebrating culture, creativity and the arts and seeks to actively promote the belief that this rich and varied culture is alive, treasured and nurtured in people’s lives, today and every day.

We take a look at some events that caught our eye as part of Culture Night 2022.

Dublin Modular At Meeting House Square in Temple Bar

Dublin Modular will be dishing out some culture at Meeting House Square in Temple Bar on Friday 23rd of September, closing the celebrations with Live and Vinyl sets from 22:00-00:00. MAV, Maeve O’Neill, Tadhg K & Frank Grimes will be performing on the night.

Phoenix Park – Bike Disco

Dublin’s very first Bike Disco takes place in Phoenix Park. The free 5km family cycling event is open to all ages, abilities & bike types. Cyclists are encouraged to light up and decorate their bikes, helmets and outfits to make the event as colourful as possible. The cycle starts at 8 pm and leaves from the Phoenix Monument Roundabout at Chesterfield Avenue. The cycle will last 1 hour approx.

Bambi and Dreamcycles In Rua Red

Bambi (Rory Reilly) and Dreamcycles (Jennifer Moore) will perform an extended mix of techno and ambient music, mixing DJ sets and live performance in the Café Space in Rua Red. The event will start at 10pm.

Plexa Present Open Studio’s With DJs At Temple Bar Creative Corner

Plexa are proud to open up their studios for their first Culture Night. Pop in and see what goes on in the studios. Meet the artists, see their workspaces and speak to them about their practice. There will also be a few DJ’s playing some vinyl throughout the evening.

Crack Jenny’s – Funky House w/ Heroes and Villains

The night begins in sound and vision at the Laneway Gallery, hosted in collaboration with Electronic Music Council. The Laneway’s current exhibition, Heroes and Villain, curated by artist GM Spiers, including Berlin-era Bowie and electronic sound pioneers Cavaret Voltaire, will become the stage for performances by EMC members. Digital forms of Heroes and Villains will move to the downstairs screens of Crack Jennys, accompanied by performances from VLR & EMC DJs.

Culture Night Block Party with Locker 43

DJs, skateboarding, breakdancing and music from Luca Records in the hear of Waterford.

Acid Granny – Pop-Up Performance

Armed with a shopping trolley soundsystem, Acid Granny devise surreal ambulatory performances in collaboration with passers by in the urban landscape of Dublin City. Catch them on Capel Street at 8.30 pm where they’ll be staging a pop-up performance for Culture Night Dublin 2022.

Night Moves at Fruit & Veg Market, St Michan’s Street

Night Moves is a sampler of club culture featuring DJs and discussions taking place at Dublin’s Fruit and Veg Market off Capel Street for Culture Night, this evening, Friday September 23rd. Produced by Nialler9 and Totally Dublin in collaboration with Culture Night Dublin from 4:30pm to 11pm.

Discussions on club culture will be from 4:30pm – 6:00pm featuring Carly Heath, Sunil Sharpe and Cllr. Claire Byrne. DJ performances serving as a sampler of club culture will run from 6:15pm – 11:00pm. Line up includes Billy Scurry, Small Crab b2b EMA (Skin & Blister), Roo Honeychild b2b Selky (Club Comfort), Pop Dungeon, R3D’S House & Lumo Club.

SIONNA Music and Arts Festival Presents: Culture Night – Live at King Johns Castle in Limerick

SIONNA music and arts festival has returned for culture night, where they will include some of Ireland’s finest live electronic music acts and DJs with plenty of diversity and style to appeal to all audiences. The aim of the event is to promote Irish night time culture and supporting Irish artists by giving them the opportunity to showcase their craft.

The event will also include live mural paintings and art installations that will run throughout the course of the day. Expect live music from R.Kitt(live), Paddy Mulcahy, Fendah and Rumi. Live mural painting by Ohhi Ohno and an art installation by XplusX Collective.
